Our country is one of the most Arab countries facing a stifling water crisis and is among the world's most fragile countries in terms of water security. Fresh water resources are dwindling due to the excessive pumping of groundwater. The demand for water is increasing due to high per capita consumption, excessive use and mismanagement of water resources and rapid population growth.
Al-Hajar Hadlan is one of the affected areas, which is located in the Qubaita district of Lahj governorate, where the population has become suffering from a lack of water sources due to the scarcity of resources for digging wells and as a result of the increase in rainfall in the villages of this governorate and the inability of the residents of this village to store them for the dry seasons These factors caused suffering to the population.
As a result of the suffering experienced by the residents of this village, the Renaissance Makers Organization intervened with the support of LWR to find appropriate solutions that reduce the suffering of the population and suit the nature of the targeted area. Shukri is 58 years old and works as an electrical engineer. He is married and supports his family of 5.
Shukri talks about his situation before the intervention: “I suffer from a shortage of water due to the remoteness of its sources and the difficulty of carrying it and bringing it home due to the nature of the mountainous region, and this cost me a lot of money that exceeded my ability because of my limited income.”
He continues, "One day, the Renaissance Makers team came to assess the need, filmed and documented, and told me that they would provide me and some residents of this area with money to build reservoirs - watering cans - to alleviate the suffering of the residents. I felt happy because I did not have the money."
